Many Buddhistemplesor‘wats’ were built within the moated city walls and they still can be visited today.The most famous buildings are the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep with its golden chedi and the Wat Chiang Man, which dates back to the 13th century. It holds the Phra Sila, a marble Buddha and a crystal Buddha. Chiang Mai is often used as a starting point for treks through the jungle and visits to the nearby Elephant Nature Park. Night bazaars sell local handicrafts including locally made woven goods and umbrellas.
